Rural flat-roof solutions

Start with drainage, deck and the way the roof is used

Pulborough properties include traditional houses with later extensions, detached garages, dormers and modern single-storey additions. Flat roofs in leafy settings can collect leaves around outlets, while exposed village-edge sites place extra strain on perimeter trims and wall junctions.

The visible waterproofing may be felt, GRP or a liquid coating, but the concealed deck and insulation determine whether a repair can last. A soft deck, persistent ponding or damp insulation should not simply be hidden under another surface layer.

We assess repair, overlay and full renewal options, then record the selected system and key details in a written quotation. In-house scaffolding is available where the roof cannot be reached safely from a suitable lower level.

Pulborough flat-roof work

Systems for extensions, garages and dormers

The membrane is selected after considering shape, substrate, movement, thermal design and access.

01

Three-layer felt

Layered high-performance membranes for extensions, garages and larger areas with adaptable edge and upstand details.

02

GRP fibreglass

Seamless rigid laminate for stable compatible decks, with preformed trims and reinforced corners.

03

Reinforced liquid systems

Cold-applied waterproofing for compatible complex shapes, gutters and detailed junctions.

04

Deck renewal

Defective boards replaced and correctly fixed before the new waterproof covering is installed.

05

Warm-roof upgrades

Insulation and vapour control designed above the structural deck where required and feasible.

06

Outlets and leaf management

Drainage routes formed for maintainability, particularly where nearby trees create recurring debris.

Warm-roof principle

Keeping the structural deck on the warm side

In a typical warm flat roof, a vapour-control layer sits above the structural deck, rigid insulation is placed above it and the waterproofing is installed over a compatible overlay or directly as the specified system allows. This reduces condensation risk by keeping the deck warmer.

The exact build-up, fixings, fire performance and U-value must be designed for the project. Door thresholds, rooflights and existing wall heights can restrict the available depth, so an insulation upgrade is not just a matter of adding boards.

This is a principle diagram only. The project quotation and applicable technical design define the actual components and thicknesses.

Pulborough area

Tree-lined gardens and open village-edge exposure

A roof near mature trees may need straightforward access to clear outlets and inspect leaf traps. A roof facing open countryside may need particular attention to wind-exposed edges. The system should be maintainable in its actual setting rather than treated as an isolated grey rectangle.

Older extensions sometimes have low window sills or short wall upstands that limit how high a new warm-roof build-up can rise. We identify these constraints before proposing extra insulation or thicker decking.

From enquiry to quotation

Specify the concealed work as clearly as the finish

The written quote records whether the roof is stripped, which deck is included and how insulation and drainage are being handled.

  1. 1
    Inspect roof and room below

We review the visible membrane, outlets, upstands, deck condition and internal signs.

  2. 2
    Assess repair versus renewal

Local compatibility and remaining serviceability are compared with strip-off and full replacement.

  3. 3
    Choose the build-up

Deck, insulation, vapour control, membrane, trims and access are written into the proposal.

  4. 4
    Install and hand over

Work is completed in suitable conditions, checked and photographed where available.

Questions answered

Pulborough flat roofing FAQs

Which flat-roof material is best in Pulborough?

The roof shape, deck, movement, surrounding trees, detail complexity and thermal design matter more than the postcode. We compare felt, GRP and liquid options after inspection.

Can leaves cause a flat roof to leak?

Leaves can block outlets and hold water against vulnerable details. The membrane may also have a separate defect, so drainage and waterproofing should both be checked.

Can the roof be repaired locally?

Yes, when the failure is local and the surrounding system remains sound and compatible. Widespread moisture or poor decking may require renewal.

Can you convert it to a warm roof?

Often, subject to available height, thresholds, upstands and applicable thermal requirements. The complete vapour-control and insulation design must be specified.

Do you arrange scaffolding?

Yes. In-house scaffolding can be incorporated where safe access or edge protection is needed.

Are all flat roofs guaranteed for the same period?

No. Qualifying work receives the written guarantee stated in the quotation. Terms vary by scope and system, and transfer is not automatic.
